Vinyl Floor Stripping Knox - Melbourne

Tile and Grout Pro provides specialist sealer stripping and old coating removal for resilient flooring throughout Knox, including vinyl sheet floors, luxury vinyl tiles, vinyl planks and older vinyl commercial floors. Vinyl does not behave like porous natural stone, so the stripping approach is different. Instead of removing penetrating sealers, the main issue is usually the removal of worn acrylic dressings, yellowed maintenance coatings, patchy surface finishes, polish build-up, greasy residues and incompatible floor finishes that leave the floor dull, slippery or hard to clean.

Customers in Knox often ask us to strip vinyl floors before a fresh protective finish is applied. That is usually the right approach when the old finish has become cloudy, scratched, patchy, uneven in gloss level or contaminated with ingrained soil. Our process removes the failed coating, deep cleans the floor, prepares the surface properly and then allows us to recommend the right next step, whether that is a new low-sheen finish, a satin protective finish, a higher gloss commercial finish or a simpler clean-and-maintain approach.

What we remove from vinyl floors in Knox

We can remove old acrylic coatings, water-based floor polishes, maintenance dressings, worn sacrificial layers, patchy surface finishes and residue from poor previous applications. Some products strip relatively easily, while others may require more than one pass, careful agitation, edge work and controlled rinsing to prevent residue being left behind. We explain the difference between easy-to-strip maintenance coatings and heavier built-up finishes so customers understand why some vinyl stripping jobs are straightforward and others are more labour-intensive.

Why vinyl floor stripping is different from stone stripping

Unlike porous stone, vinyl is a resilient floor surface. That means stripping is generally focused on removing topical surface finishes rather than extracting impregnating sealers from within the surface. For that reason, we usually recommend appropriate water-based vinyl floor finishes after stripping rather than penetrating / impregnating protection systems. Where a customer also has tiled wet areas or stone surfaces on the same property, we can coordinate related tile sealing, surface restoration, renewal services or tile regrouting at the same time.

Where we strip and refinish vinyl floors

We work on vinyl and luxury vinyl floors in homes, offices, retail spaces, medical settings, schools, common areas and commercial interiors. We can help with vinyl floors in kitchens, living areas, corridors, work areas and other dry internal spaces where old finishes have built up over time. We also explain the difference between stripping in residential settings and larger commercial environments, where traffic levels, hygiene requirements and finish selection can change the recommended system.

After stripping: cleaning, drying and choosing the new finish

Once the old finish has been removed, we deep clean the floor, neutralise residues where needed and allow the surface to dry before applying the selected finish. We generally recommend water-based finish systems for vinyl because they are lower odour, easier to manage indoors, more practical for many residential and commercial environments and easier to maintain than harsher solvent-based alternatives. We can also discuss low sheen, satin and gloss appearance options so the floor is refinished to suit the customer’s preferred look and maintenance expectations.
